The TESS software includes six principal functions which are fully-integrated to provide a unified end-to-end optical-signature simulation tool for diverse objects and conditions:
- OBJECT CONSTRUCTION: three-dimensional geometry, materials, properties
- FLIGHT DYNAMICS: target/sensor position, orientation engagement/parametric modes
- RADIATIVE ENVIRONMENT: solar/earth/sky endo-exo bidirectional spectral irradiance
- THERMAL DYNAMICS: convective/conductive/radiative heating and temperature
- SURFACE RADIANCE: directional emission, bidirectional reflection, atmospheric propagation
- SENSOR RESPONSE: spectral radiance image; range-Doppler laser cross section
